House of the Vestal Virgins, Rome Italy

The House of the Vestal Virgins was home to Rome's only female priests.  The rather large complex contained a rectangular courtyard consisting of three ponds. The six Vestal women were selected from Noble families at the age of 10 and were expected to serve 30 years as priests.  The white statues that are visible on the far side of courtyard are of the chief Vestals.
